Sensex, Nifty edged higher in early trade Friday, tracking stability in Asian stocks. The BSE Sensex gained 150.34 points at 33,906.62. The NSE Nifty50 index rose 38.75 points at 10,479.05, in the later morning hours.
Shares of Larsen &Toubro, Mahindra, and Mahindra, Adani Ports, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank were among the major gainers on Sensex, whereas Tata Steel, Coal India and Power Grid fell.
In the NSE, Nifty Realty, Nifty Media sectoral indices traded higher while Nifty IT, Nifty Pharma, and Nifty PSU Bank hovered in the red.
Shares of Reliance Infrastructure gained on Friday after rising 10% in yesterday’s trade. The group company, Reliance Infrastructure also rose 7.93 percent, as the company has inked a binding agreement to sell its Mumbai power biz to Adani Transmission for Rs. 18,800 crore.
Shares of TCS Ltd rose 1% to Rs. 2610.10 after it has won a USD 2.25 billion outsourcing contract.
Commodity Watch on Rupee: The Indian rupee, on Friday, opened a slight change against the dollar since traders avoided taking long-positions ahead of a long weekend in view of Christmas. Markets will remain closed on Monday on account of Christmas. The domestic currency was trading at 64.05 a dollar, up 0.02 percent from its Thursday’s close of 64.06.
